Under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) initiative, funding for the State Key Laboratory of Climate Resilience for Coastal Cities (SKL-CRCC), jointly run by HKUST and PolyU, comes primarily from the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF), providing significant annual support (up to HK$20 million).

HKUST also provides matching funding per ITF requirements and secures other potentially applicable grants like those from the Research Grants Council (RGC) for related projects.

All the fundings are aimed at national strategic research into urban climate resilience and disaster mitigation.
