He is the chief engineer and director of the Center of Excellence in Engineering at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). Recognized as one of the first “National Outstanding Engineers” and an expert in the Guangdong Province Future Cities Expert Database, Su has 35 years of experience in cross-sea construction projects, greatly advancing China's cross-sea cluster construction and management technologies to the forefront of the global stage. World’s First Lightweight High Resolution High Precision CO₂ and CH₄ Point Source Detector “MUSICO” Arrives at Tiangong Space Station via Tianzhou-10
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) launched "MUSICO" (Multi-Spectral Imaging Carbon Observatory) aboard the Tianzhou-10 spacecraft on May 11. This lightweight, high-resolution observatory detects carbon dioxide (CO₂) and methane (CH₄) emissions using four optical sensors. Marking Hong Kong's first scientific payload on China's Tiangong Space Station, MUSICO demonstrates the city’s capabilities in aerospace instrumentation and aims to support national climate goals while inspiring future scientists. Prof. Charles NG Wang-Wai, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement and Chair Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has received three distinguished awards: the Telford Gold Medal from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in London, the Donald Stanley Award from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, and the Scott Sloan Best Paper Award from Computers and Geotechnics.
